If you find the right places to get hosting and your domain from, it can be relatively cheap. You can get a domain for $9 and hosting for $5 a month. I use http://www.surpasshosting.com and buy domains from http://www.godaddy.com
Still, that's about $69 a year.

I know it may not be quite a ".com", but there is a site where you can have your entire site be redirected to a ".cjb.net", which, may sound more difficult, but really isn't. I'll give you a few examples.
My Keith Urban ACTUAL web site is http://www.angelfire.com/music5/urbanlovin. Now, that's nothing you want to have to type each time you want to visit it. So, I redirected it and, now, it is http://urbanlovin.cjb.net.
Another example is...
My Darren Hayes ACTUAL web site is http://www.angelfire.com/music6/tensionspark. Again, that's nothing real easy to type, so I redirected it to http://myfriendsareallcelebrities.cjb.net. That one sounds more difficult than the Keith Urban one, of course, since it is longer, but it is a LOT easier to remember... especially if you just remember that the site's name is :: my friends are all celebrities ::.
There's just a few ideas for you in case you don't want to worry about paying anything. The redirecting to the ".cjb.net" is free...
